Malia Gehan, PhD is an Assistant Member and Principal Investigator at the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center, who focuses understanding mechanisms of crop resilience under temperature stress. To study temperature stress and natural variation, her lab uses a number of high-throughput and high-resolution image-based phenotyping technologies. She co-developed and maintains the open-source open-development suite of image analysis tools, PlantCV. She was previously a Research Scientist at the Danforth Center and a NSF-PGRP Postdoctoral Fellow. Malia earned her PhD in Plant Biology at Michigan State University with Dr Mike Thomashow. Dr Gehan is also dedicated to outreach and has led computer science training for the Missouri Transect Computer Science Institute for Women (CSIW), Phenome, and other student and teacher workshops.
